Team 1511- Rolling Thunder

Awards

2008 - FIRST Overdrive

In the 2008 Season, we won three awards at the Finger Lakes Regional and Philadelphia Regional.

Engineering Inspiration Award

Following up 2007's Regional Chairman's Award at Finger Lakes, we were honored to receive this year's 2008 Engineering Inspiration Award. This is the second-highest award a team can receive, and this award celebrates the efforts we have put into developing our students not only as engineers, but as people as well.

Imagery Award

At the Philadelphia Regional, we clearly stood out among the crowd in our camo theme which resulted in winning the Imagery Award! Our colors extend from not only our team uniform, but plaster our pit, crate, robot, and even our faces! We received many compliments from the Game Announcer, judges, and even other teams.

Underwriters Laboratory Industrial Safety Award

A new award for our team this year, the U.L. Industial Safety Award is described as:

"Celebrates the team that progresses beyond safety fundamentals by using innovative
ways to eliminate or protect against hazards. "

Driven by one of our mentors Cynette, Rolling Thunder has completely reformed how they operate in the shop, on the field, and even in our normal lives. Regular safety talks, posters, tests, and inclusion of everyone on the team including parents were an important part of winning this award. Extending our knowledge of safety and our best practices to other teams was vital as well.

2007 - Rack N' Roll

In the 2007 Season, we won three awards at the Finger Lakes Regional and the Boston Regional.

2007 Regional Chairman's Winners

At the Finger Lakes Regional, we picked up the Chairmans award with our theme of "Thunder". This award represents the spirit of FIRST. It honors the team that, in the judges’ estimation, best represents a model for other teams to emulate, and which embodies the goals and purpose of FIRST. It remains FIRST’s most prestigious award.

Website Award

This award goes to our awesome programmers and admins who keep our website and forum looking good! We picked this award up at the Boston Regional. This award recognizes excellence
in student-designed, built, and managed FIRST team websites.

Spirit Award

Again, at the Boston Regional, we were awarded the Daimler Chrysler Team Spirit award. This award celebrates extraordinary enthusiasm and spirit through exceptional partnership and teamwork. Our crowds were constantly up and active. You could hear cheers from the pits! Lets go "ROLLING-" "-THUNDER!"

2006 - Aim High

We have won two awards, the first award was won at the Finger Lakes Regional in Rochester, NY: the Engineering Inspiration Award. Here's what the judges said about us:

This award celebrates a team's outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering and engineers, both within their school, as well as their community. Criteria include: the extent and inventiveness of the team's efforts to recruit students to engineering, the extent and effectiveness of the team's community outreach efforts, and the measurable success of those efforts. The Engineering Inspiration Award is the second highest honor FIRST bestows to a team.
The judges have selected a team which has inspired people on their team, other teams, and their community. They were active and successful raising funds for both the team and local organizations while raising awareness of FIRST. They have helped start new FRC and FLL teams, and have spread the FIRST word while doing lots of demos.
Team members who have come into technology from other areas have become some of their strongest cheerleaders.
In just their second year, this team's impact has rumbled through the Rochester area. For their 151 Thunderbolts, this year's Engineering Inspiration award goes to Team 1511 - Rolling Thunder.

The second award was won at the Boston Regional in Boston, MA: Imagery Award for attractiveness in engineering and outstanding visual asthetic integration of the machine and team appearance with the sameness of red, black, and white pattern camo pants.

The judges stated "the winning team had a color scheme that stood out above the rest but could also be difficult to find. Their robot, team shirts, and booth all created a unique and professional look. This team was not only organized and effective; they rolled their team from the pits to the playing field.”
